New Braunfels City Can Ban
The Can Ban is a City of New Braunfels ordinance that limits what you can bring on the river. It's the city's law — not a Rockin' R rule — but we want you to know it so you can float worry-free.
Where it applies
The Can Ban applies to our in-city floats: Historic Gruene, The Shore, and the Comal. Our upriver locations (Riverbank & Huaco Springs) are outside city limits.
What it is
New Braunfels prohibits disposable containers on the river within city limits. That means no cans, bottles, or single-use disposable containers on your float — only reusable containers are allowed, and no glass of any kind.
What's allowed
- ✓ Reusable cups & tumblers
- ✓ Reusable food containers
- ✓ Reusable jugs, sports bottles & hydration paks
- ✓ One cooler per person (30 quarts or less)
What's not
- ✗ Disposable containers — cans, bottles, cups, zip-top bags, snack containers, beverage boxes
- ✗ Any glass
- ✗ Foam / Styrofoam
- ✗ Volume drinking devices (e.g., beer bongs)
- ✗ Liquor shooters, or any container under 5 fl oz
Why it exists
The ban is about keeping the river clean. Disposable cans and bottles are a major source of litter in the water and along the banks — cutting them out protects the river and keeps it beautiful for everyone floating after you.
On your trip
Bring a reusable cup or tumbler and pour your drinks into it before you get on the water. The cup we provide counts — you're good to go with it. Leave cans, bottles, and anything glass behind.
